Students to pledge support for Army, celebrate ‘Surgical Strike Day’

‘Write letters, cards of appreciation to nearest Army camps’

Srinagar, September 28: The state government has asked the school authorities across the state to assist the students to write letters and cards of appreciation and send to the nearest Army camps in the area.

The directive was issued on the instructions of Union Government, who have directed all the State to celebrate September 29th as “Surgical Strike Day” to mark the second anniversary of the surgical strike.

Following the dictate, JK Government has asked the Department of Education to ensure that “Surgical Strike Day” is celebrated across the state on the day.

On September 29, 2016 Indian armed forces claimed to have conducted surgical strikes against militant camps across the LoC in J&K following a militant attack on an Army camp in Uri sector in Baramulla district killing at least 17 army men.

In the circular issued by the Secretary Education, all the Government schools have to organize different activities from 28th September to 30th September at various levels across the state to celebrate the day.

As per the circular, the Deputy Director General NCC and principals of all the schools having NCC units are required to organise special parades, followed by motivated lectures and talks given by war veterans or other related persons.

The school children as per the circular are required to take pledge by writing letters, cards addressed to the nearest army camp to show their support for armed forces. The schools shall arrange blank cards to the children for writing or creating messages, read the circular.

The Directors of School Education Kashmir and Jammu have also been asked to tie-up with the Police Public Schools and Army Goodwill schools for observance of similar programmes in their respective schools.

The schools have further been instructed to send compliance reports of the programmes with visual evidence. “All the authorities shall send one page report of the activities conducted along with pictures and videos to the Secretary’s (Education) office through Director School Education Kashmir and Jammu and also upload it on their respective websites,” the circular reads.
