URI CRICKET PREMIER LEAGUE 2018: TSC BIJHAMA BAGS THE TROPHY

Uri, 01 Aug 2018: Uri Cricket Premier League was instituted by Uri Brigade in 2010 to promote local talent and strengthen the bond between local Awam, specially the youth. The 9th edition of UPL commenced on 30 Jun 2018, which witnessed participation of 80 teams. Youth from Uri, Boniyar, Nambla, Bijhama, Chulan, Gingle and far flung border areas participated in the cricket league with great  zeal and enthusiasm.

   The first semifinal was played between Blue Star CC & UCC Boniyar and second semifinal was played between Uri Club & TSC Bijhama. UCC Boniyar and TSC Bijhama reached the finals.

    The final was conducted on 01 Aug 2018. Major General Gulab Singh Rawat, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Dagger Division graced the occasion. Officials from civil administration of Baramulla District and Uri Tehsil were there to witness the evenly contested and exciting final match alongwith prominent leaders of Uri, Numbardars, Sarpanches and local Awam who gathered in large numbers to support both the teams.

     The finalists were feliciated by Major General Gulab Singh Rawat, wherein cheques were presented to the Winners, Runners Up and Man of the Series. A Rolling trophy was also presented to the winning Team TSC Bijhamam.

    On the culmination of UPL IX, a cultural program was organized by students of Army Goodwill School, Uri who mesmerized the crowd with their enthusiastic performance. On this occasion GOC also felicitated the students of Chinar Nau Jawan Club, Uri who passed out with flying colours in the third batch of Bakery and  tailoring courses.

     Addressing the teams and spectators the GOC reaffirmed Army's commitment in supporting local talent and urged the youth to make use of such opportunities to hone their sporting skills and equip themselves to get selected in the State and National teams. The GOC then interacted with the players, civil administrative officials and the local Awam over the high tea.

    The players and locals thanked the Army for promoting cricket league. Highlight of the league was the selection of budding local players, who will be sent to Pune with the support of Aseem Foundation, a Pune based NGO, for further coaching under internationally acclaimed coaches.
