DHSK organises One-day Workshop on National Leprosy Eradication

Bandipora, Mar 07:- Directorate of Health Services Kashmir (DHSK) on Wednesday organized one day workshop on National Leprosy Eradication programme at AMT School here in this North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

The main aim of the workshop was to provide an insight into the symptoms as well as the treatment associated with the Leprosy. “The main objective of organizing this workshop is to expedite early diagnosis and treatment of leprosy in order to prevent the patients from being affected by the problem,” said an official.

He said that, misconceptions were prevailing in society towards leprosy. The truth is that the disease was completely curable. The motive of the campaign was the message could be sent to the grassroot level that a leprosy patient was not worthy of detestation or hatred in society, but the sick should be encouraged to get their treatment done.

Under the national leprosy disease eradication programme, the treatment of leprosy is free at the public health institutions. Mild white or copious spots on skin may be indicative of leprosy. Anaphylaxis affects the nerves of the skin because of which sometimes the fingers of hands and feet come off the body. Apart from this, white spots may also develop in the eyes. Successful treatment of leprosy could be possible if the disease is identified in time. The course of medicine can be completed according to the medical advice, stressed speakers on the occasion.

A total of 15 persons have been diagnosed with leprosy in the district and are undergoing treatment, officials said.

Chief Medical Officer Bandipora, Block Medical Officer Bandipora presided over as Chief guests and distributed various AIDS among the leprosy patients.
