Civil defence is movement of civilians; says Dir
Budgam, Mar 01 (KNS): A daylong workshop on ‘Role of Civil Defence and targets 2018’ was held on Thursday at Sheikh- Ul-Alam Hall in Budgam.
The workshop was organized by Civil Defence Kashmir Zone.
Director Civil Defence Kashmir Javid Hassan Bhat who was chief guest on the occasion inaugurated the workshop.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhat said that the need for the effective disaster management was felt soon after the world war-1 as a separate mechanism to face the any natural or manmade disasters to mitigate the losses.
He said that the civil defence is a movement of civilians and this movement needs more and more people for effective disaster management.
The event was aimed to aware public about disaster related challenges, preparedness and setting out the targets for 2018 regarding the civil defence rescue and awareness.
On the occasion, speakers enlightened about the role of civil defense in disaster management, first aid and emergency medicines during the disasters.
Speakers stressed on the need to disseminate the awareness about immediate response towards disasters right from the home. They also said that for the effective response, different mock drills should be conducted at home to train and aware family members about preparedness to mitigate losses of life and property during disasters.
Among others guests, ADC Budgam, Mohammad Farooq Dar, Dy. Controllers of civil defence, chief wardens, Dy, Chief wardens, scores of volunteers of civil defence and locals from Budgam participated in the workshop.
On the occasion, Dr Mehdi Hassan presented live demonstration about first aid and emergency medical aid in disasters.
Principal CTI Malik Aijaz presented concluding remarks and vote of thanks at end of the workshop. (KNS)
