Violence is no means to achieve any goals, says CM
Srinagar, Nov 17 (KNS): A police sub-inspector (SI) was killed Friday evening and a Special Police Officer (SPO) injured in a “shootout” with militants in Zakura area in Srinagar outskirts.
The SI has been identified as Imran Tak of Udhampur. Tak has joined police in 2010 and was posted in Srinagar. The SPO is stable after treatment, police officials said.
Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Range, Munir Khan, told KNS, “It was not an attack but a shootout during search operation.”
“Three militants of LeT were travelling in a car on Zakura main road and they fired on security forces in which the SI was injured critically and succumbed later,” he said.
The IGP said that one militant from Parimpora has been arrested, while other two have fled.
“We have recovered cash, papers, camouflage clothes and some other material,” he said.
SSP Srinagar Imtiyaz Ismail while talking to the reporters at the shootout site said that a police party was pursuing the militants who were travelling in a car.
“The militants fired on the police party in which an SI was critically injured and an SPO also suffered injuries, but he is stable,” he said.
The security forces have cordoned off the areas and are searching for the two militants who escaped after the shootout, he said.
“We should be able to get them,” the SSP said.
A wreath laying ceremony was held for the slain SI in DPL here which was attended by DGP, IGP and other senior officials of the police.
Condemning the killing of police officer, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti said violence is no means to achieve any goals, rather it tears apart the entire social fabric of the society.
The Chief Minister has conveyed her sympathies with the bereaved family of slain cop. (KNS)
