Secy tourism holds introductory meeting with travel trade fraternity 

Srinagar, Nov 1: Secretary Tourism Sarmad Hafeez (IAS) Wednesday evening had an introductory meeting with the travel trade and hospitality sector to seek inputs from them on upcoming tourism promotional campaigns.

The meeting was also attended by Director Tourism Kashmir Mahmood A Shah, Deputy Directors Peerzada Zahoor, Riyaz Beigh and Waseem Raja besides Director SKICC Yasmeen Khan and the representatives from travel trade and hospitality sector were also present.

During the meeting, Secretary Tourism urged the travel trade fraternity to join hands with the tourism department for joint tourism promotional campaigns.

He said the promotional campaign through social media, print media, road shows, and tourism fairs will be given impetus.

On the occasions, the travel trade suggested decorating stalls at the travel fairs on theme basis, promoting destinations through billboards at important locations across India.

They also urged the department to counter negative media publicity by taking up the issue at the ministerial level so that pressure is exerted on these channels.

The travel trade fraternity also suggested that local and regional channels of the different states may be roped in for tourism promotion by inviting them to the state on FAM tours. They also suggested promoting education tour of the students from universities, colleges, schools across India to Kashmir besides roping in corporate houses for MICE tourism.

Secretary tourism assured the travel trade fraternity that the department would work as a family with them to promote tourism.

He said the travel industry should also join hands with the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation for the promotion of its properties.

Secretary Tourism who is also MD JKTDC said the corporation has made beautiful packages for its properties located at different locations.

He also emphasized on tapping foreign market.

Director Tourism Kashmir said the department is planning more road shows this year in South Indian cities where from tourist have stated visiting Kashmir in good numbers.
