Farmer Awareness camp concludes in Zachaldara

Handwara, October 27:  A three day Farmers Camp concluded here at Horticultural Premises Zachaldara. The Camp was inaugurated by the Syed Farooq Geelani Principal Govt. Boys Hr. Sec. School Zachaldara who is also a progressive and prominent Farmer of the area.

            The three day camp was attended by almost 200 farmers of the Handwara and Zachaldara Tehsils. The camp was organized by Kashmir Environmental and Social Organization- a Local NGO involved in popularization and dissemination of sciences at gross root level.

            The camp was supported and catalyzed by Ministry of Earth Sciences Govt. of India.  Organizers said the basic aim of the camp was to aware the farmers about the changing climatic trends and its effects on their profession. The resource persons of department of Agriculture and Department of Horticulture deliberated over the issue of changing climate and its effects on Horticultural and  agricultural scenario.

            On the Concluding Day The Chief Horticulture Officer Mr. Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, Horticultural Development officer Handwara  Dr. Khursheed Habib, Horticultural Development Officer RajwaraMr.BilalAhamd Wani, Ex. Director Finance Mr. Ab. Rashid Maqroo and Agriculture Extension Officer Mr. ParvezAhmad,Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad and Dr. Hilal Ahmad graced the occasion.

            On the occasion, Chief Horticulture officer gave a detailed presentation about the changing climate and Horticulture and at the end of the session he took the queries of progressive horticulturists and explained the role of his department and assured to meet their expectation.

            The Agriculture Extension Officer Parvez  Ahmad explained about the various precautions to be followed by the farmers in light of changing climate. Dr. Mukhtar gave the detailed presentation about the current scenario of agriculture. Dr. Khurshid demonstrated about the high technology adopted by the department of Horticulture to popularize the profession of Farming.

            The program coordinator explained the role of Ministry of Earth Sciences Govt. of India in addressing the concerns of farmers.  He deliberated about the aims and objectives of Program. The program becomes more vibrant when the participating farmers also spoke about the experience, aspiration and concerns. They lauded the role of Ministry of Earth Sciences Govt. of India in reaching the far-flung areas of Jammu and Kashmir and wished the same for State departments. The program ended with the vote of thanks by Syed Farooq Geelani.
