Seminar on ‘Women’s Issues and Concerns’ held at SP College

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 22: One day seminar on “Women’s Issues and Concerns” was held at Sri Pratap College Srinagar today. The seminar was organized by the Women’s Empowerment Cell of the College.

Guest Speaker Dr Bulbul Dhar, Associate Professor, Jamia Millia Islamia University discussed the concerns and issues pertaining to gender bias affecting the society and the attitude required to address it.

She deliberated extensively upon gender stereotypes, gender disparity process, patriarchal control and constitutional provisions, and violence against women.

Dr Roshan Ara, Faculty Member Women Study Centre, University of Kashmir deliberated upon participation of women in decision-making and the barriers hindering the growth as decision makers.

Principal of the College Prof (Dr) Parveen Pandit in her valedictory remarks highlighted the challenges faced by the women, and pointed out that perspectives have changed and emphasized the role of parents, teachers and media in guiding their children particularly the girl child for the betterment and development of the society.

Faculty members from the college Dr Hameeda Mir and Dr Farooq Ahmad Mir, Department of Physics also discussed the concerns and issues pertaining to women.

The proceedings of the seminar started with the welcome address by Prof Nighat, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry and Convener Women Development Cell of the college.
