Students, locals hit streets, appeal admin to nab culprits
Srinagar, Oct 07 (KNS): Though the mysterious braid chopping incidents in Kashmir continued from last three weeks, the students of Women's College MA Road Saturday staged a protest against what they termed as ‘an attack on the dignity of a woman’.
According to the KNS correspondent, the girl students assembled in the college premises and shouted slogans against the braid chopping incidents.
They were demanding authorities to nab the culprits behind these ‘heinous crimes’.
The students termed these incidents as ‘an attack on the dignity of a woman’, saying that the administration has failed to come up with the clue over these incidents, which is unfortunate.
They said that these acts have created fear among the people especially among the womenfolk here. “We don’t dare to venture outside even in the broad day light. These acts must be stopped forth with so that the people could feel a sigh of relief,” they said.
They also said that they will hit the streets in case the administration fails to find the culprits behind these incidents.
Meanwhile, the locals from Saida Kadal and Chattabal areas of Srinagar also protested against the braid chopping incidents.
The locals also chanted slogans against these incidents and held government and its agencies responsible for these mysterious acts.
They also demanded an immediate end to the brad chopping incidents.
Notably, several braid chopping incidents were reported in Kashmir so far.
The chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had also directed the Police to formulate a team to investigate the matter thoroughly.
The state Police later formed Special Investigation Team (SIT) in this regard.
The police also announced a reward of Rs six lakh for credible information leading to arrest of any person behind braid chopping incidents.
However, the police on late Friday evening rued the “lack of support” from public in solving the mystery behind unabated braid-chopping incidents in Kashmir valley.
They also said that all the accused handed over to them were found innocent.
“In most of the cases, we have not been provided support by the victims or close family members. One of the points which people may be reluctant in going to the police stations. We have decided that a lady police officer would be available for these victims to be examined or statements recorded,” DIG Central Kashmir Ghulam Hassan Bhat had told reporters on Friday. (KNS)
