‘Will review its condition after 10 days of every month’
Srinagar, Oct 02 (KNS): Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Monday expressed dismay over the deteriorating ecological condition of the world famous Dal Lake, stating that she will review its condition after 10 days of every month.
According to the KNS correspondent, talking to reporters on the sidelines of the function here at ‘Makai Point’, situated on the embankment of Dal Lake, Mehbooba said, “I am heart wrenched after seeing the deteriorating ecological condition of Dal Lake. This is our property and Kashmiris will lose everything in case its condition will not be improved.”
She also said that the ‘Green India’ mission is already in place and under this mission; the condition of the Dal Lake will be improved. “I will personally review the condition of Dal Lake after 10 days of every month,” she added.
Admitting that the weeds and other things in Dal Lake is causing hurdles while rowing the boats, the chief Minister said that “besides sanitation of Dal Lake, we also need to pure our thinking process , which was the lesson of Gandhi Ji.”
Earlier, Vice Chairman LAWDA, Dr. Abdul Hafiz Shah had said that the famous Dal Lake has been shrinking but not drastically and can be saved from further deterioration if Kashmiris collectively act responsibly to restore pristine glory of the water body.
Shah had also said the present area of the lake, as per the latest survey by remote sensing technology has been recorded as 25.5 sq kms. “Out of which 12 km is water area and the rest are floating gardens and other wetlands,” he had said. (KNS)
