Srinagar, Jun 28 (KNS): Congress today said that the met the Governor N N Vohra and apprised him about the stand of the party on extension of central Goods and Services Tax (GST) to the state.
Five senior Congress leaders led by legislator G N Monga informed Vohra that the government is “snatching” security of leaders and workers of the party.
Monga talking to KNS after meeting the Governor said the leaders apprised him about the “deteriorating” security situation in the state and failure of the government in providing protection to the workers and activists of the party.
“The situation is very fragile in the Kashmir valley. Instead of giving protection to our workers and activists, the PDP-BJP government is snatching the security from them. Personal Security Officers are being withdrawn from the Congress party activists,” Monga alleged.
The Congress leader said that the leaders apprised the Governor about the party’s stand on GST.
Monga said that the government has started a “witch-hunt” against senior leader of the party and former MP, Tariq Hameed Karra on a land that belongs to his grandfather and Karra is now its legal heir.
“But the government has started a witch hunt against him, and is favouring some persons to raise illegal construction on his land, even as Karra Sahab has all the legal documents, High court order and documents from the Custodian land,” he said.
Talking to KNS, Congress leader and MLA Bandipora, Usman Majeed said that the leaders apprised the Governor about the “failure” of the government in providing security to the people and bringing improvement to the situation in the valley.
“We informed the Governor that the GST is a sensitive issue and the view points of all the political parties need to be kept in consideration and discussed before going ahead with its extension to the state,” he said.
Other leaders included MLA Sopore, Haji Abdul Rashid, MLA Devsar Amin Bhat. However, MLA Inderwal G M Saroori, who was part of the delegation, could not meet the Governor as he did not reach the venue on time. (KNS)
