Anantnag, March 7, CNS: “Police in South Kashmir seized a major consignment of around 4,680 bottles of Codeine syrup and held two persons who hail from North Kashmir,” SSP Islamabad Zubir Ahmed Khan revealed before reporters at Police Station Sangam.
He said that a naka party headed by SHO Sangam Muhammad Ashraf intercepted a truck (JK05D-6704) coming from Delhi to Srinagar and recovered a huge quantity of codeine phosphate from it. “In 39 boxes there were 4680 Codeine syrup that accused were intending to distribute in North Kashmir. Two person on board were arrested and formal case vide FIR number 21/2017 under section 8/21 of NDPS were registered against them.”
He identified the accused as Majid Abas Wani and Toufeeq Parrey both residents of Sumbal Bandipora. “Cough syrups with an ingredient of codeine phosphate have an intoxicating effect on the nerves and drug mafia is responsible for spreading this menace in Valley. We seek people’s cooperation to eradicate this menace and we are hopeful and looking forward for their cooperation and support,” Khan according to CNS said.
Khan said that it looks like there is the involvement of a big network. “An investigation team has been constituted to unearth the mafia and SP Operations Mubashir Bukhari is heading the team,” he said.
He said that a few days ago a person from Kenalwan Bijbehara was arrested and 40 kg fukki was seized from his possession.
