Bandipora, 2 Mar 2017. Army unit at Bandipora on Thursday presented ten Wheel Chairs to specially-abled persons including nine women hailing from far flung areas.
An official of the army said the Wheel Chairs were presented by Kenter Gamlin wife of Maj Gen Jarken Gamlin, GOC Kilo Force. He said the villagers were delighted and acknowledged the noble initiative which immensely benefited the citizens of the area.
During the event a Martial Arts Training Academy was also inaugurated at Army Goodwill School, Bandipora by Maj Gen Jarken Gamlin, GOC Kilo Force. “The program showcased the rich tradition of Kashmiri culture & national integration by means of performances by school students,” he added.
Officials said the event was utilized to promote and honour achievements of youngsters who have won various accolades in Martial Arts during various international and national events. “It is a matter of pride for Kashmir that a large number of medal winners in Martial Arts events are from Army Goodwill School, Bandipora including the young prodigy Tajamul Islam who won gold medal at World Kickboxing Championships held at at Andria, Italy,” the spokesperson said.
