Bandipora Police arrests 8 Notorious Thieves

Recovers stolen items worth 5 lacs

Bandipora, February 15 :- Acting tough against the burglars across the district, Bandipora  police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested eight burglars who have stolen goods worth lakhs in Bandipora, Sopore, Baramulla and in Kupwara during last few months.

This was disclosed by Superintendent of Police Bandipora, Zulfkar Azad during a press conference here today. He said these thieves were found involved in a number of theft and burglary cases, particularly in areas falling under the jurisdiction of several Police Stations of Bandipora, Sopore, Baramulla and Kupwara.

 

He said to ensure a speedy and effective investigation into the matter, a special investigation team was constituted which was led by SHO Bandipora Syed Gazanfur under the supervision of  DySp Hqrs Pervaiz Khan and during the course of investigation a number of suspects were rounded-up for questioning and ultimately the police was able to zero in upon eight accused persons.

The burglars have been identified as Imran Ahmad Sofi, son of Khursheed Ahmad Sofi of Kaloosa, Mohammad Ramzan Sofi son of Abdul Khaliq sofi of Kaloosa, Manzoor Ahmad shah, son of Abdul Ahad Shah of Bagh, Khazir Mohammad Dar son of Habibullah Dar of Kema, Irfan Ahmad Mir son of Ali Mohammad Mir of Kaloosa, Irshad Ahmad Akhoon son of Abdul Rashid Akhoon of Kaloosa, Mohammad Wasim Bhat son of Mohammad Shafi Bhat of Watapora and Ashiq Hussain of Kehnusa Bandipora.

 

SP Bandipora said during questioning they confessed to their involvement in a number of burglaries adding that partial recoveries in several burglary cases have been made including electronic items and edible oil worth Rupees 5 lacs.

“We have also seized two vehicles which they were used for transportation of stolen things. It is expected that more cases of thefts will be solved during the ongoing investigations,’’ he said.

A case FIR No 03/2017 U/S 457,380 RPC stands registered in Police Station Bandipora and further investigation in the case is in progress, he added.
