Srinagar |Dec 28 (PTK): Demanding resolution of the long pending Kashmir issue according to UN resolutions, the High Court Bar Association (HCBA) on Wednesday staged demonstration here at HC premises.
Led by association president, Mian Abdul Qayoom, the lawyer protesters chanted slogans against the killing and maiming of Kashmiris during the last five months of uprising in the valley.
Bar association president, Mian Abdul Qayoom said that both the countries, India and Pakistan must resolve the Kashmir issue according to the UN resolutions. “Both the countries have accepted the resolutions passed in UN and they should initiate a peaceful dialogue process to resolve the Kashmir issue,” he said.
He said that the lawyers also support the Kashmir cause as India has forcibly occupied the land. “India must hold plebiscite in Kashmir so that the people here can decide their future according to their aspirations,” he said.
Qayoom said that in view of the Article 35 A in the state, the Indian constitution is not directly applicable in JK.
He said that they organized the protest on the call given by the resistance leadership including Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and JKLF chief, Muhammad Yasin Malik as part of their weekly protest calendar.
