Srinagar | Nov 29 (PTK): Much needed in major hospitals like SKIMS, MRI scanner plays an important role in proper diagnosis and patient treatment particularly in traumatic cases. But at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) hospital, patients continue to suffer due to non-functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner for the past six days.
Patients blame hospital authorities for not giving proper attention to the functioning and proper maintenance of such important diagnostic machines.
“We are in utter need to get the tests done, but the hospital management hardly cares about us,” said a patient, Gulzar Ahmed from Bandipora.
Another patient hailing from Bandipora, Mohammad Aslam, at present admitted in Ward 7 said that he’s admitted in SKIMS on Nov 24, but he couldn’t get his MRI done till today and he receives date after date for his imaging test.
However hospital sources while admitting the inconvenience caused to the patients said that the imaging system has developed a technical snag in one of its important parts and the repair work has been undertaken accordingly. “We hope the machine is repaired soon and put to use for the welfare of patients”, they said.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a medical imaging technique used in radiology to form pictures of the anatomy and the physiological processes of the body in both health and disease. MRI scanners use strong magnetic fields, radio waves, and field gradients to generate images of the inside of the body. These highly sophisticated machines therefore need proper care and maintenance.
