Srinagar, May 9, CNS: With regard to contentious Sainik Colony issue, senior Congress party leader and former Minister Taj Mohiuddin Monday said that government has created confusion as according to him, in public the government talks in a different tone while in closed corridors it does something different.
“In public the PDP led government claims that there is no proposal for establishing a Sainik Colony for retired defence personnel in Kashmir Valley but on ground the reality is something different. The official document clearly reveals that the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, “had agreed to allotment of 173 kanals of land on payment in the Old Airfield Area. The Rajya Sainik Board has revised the requisition of land to 350 kanals and “a revised proposal has been forwarded to the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir and State Home Department. Whom shall people believe, the ‘hollow and misleading’ statements of PDP or the official documents,” Taj Mohiuddin said.
While talking to CNS on the sidelines of a protest that Congress had organized in summer capital on Monday, Taj Mohiuddin asked government how come Divisional Commissioner Kashmir had agreed to allotment of 173 kanals of land on payment in the Old Airfield Area? Now they will tell us that only Defense personnel from Jammu and Kashmir will be settled in this colony. Only time will tell who will get settled there,” Taj said.
Responding to a question, Taj said that it has been happening for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir that no funds are being released for Centrally Sponsored Schemes. “Treasuries are dry. Employees are not being paid. Roads are in shambles. There is no water and electricity. Besides, Army is reluctant to vacate from the occupied land,” he said adding that people are not satisfied with the functioning of the state government.
