Bandipora, May 08: Bandipora District Hospital (DH) Saturday turned into a battle ground when two senior doctors locked horns and hurled abuses at each other.
The crisis hit Bandipora District Hospital when Block Medical Officer (BMO) Bandipora allegedly confronted a doctor in the OPD when the later prescribed rabies vaccine, reportedly not available in the hospital, to a patient, who was bitten by a dog.
Eyewitnesses told that on Saturday morning, BMO and a local doctor exchanges heat arguments over each other and hurled abuses over the issue of availability of rabies vaccine in the hospital.
Video available with Kashmir Convener reveals that General Physician Dr Majeed Bhat hurled and abused Block Medical Officer in hospital premises when “the former he raised concern about the non-availability of rabies vaccine in the hospitaland. Eye witnesses said the doctor had prescribed vaccine to a patient but BMO objected to it and asked doctor not to prescribe the drug as it is not available in the hospital.
“Both the doctors started abusing each other and literally came to blows when arguing about the non-availability of the rabies vaccine in the hospital,” said an eyewitness.
The crisis aggravated to an extent that both the doctors approached the local police to file complaints against each other.
Dr Majeed Bhat said that when I signed the attendance register at around 10 am there was no doctor available in the hospital and in the meantime a patient with dog bite had come to visit him in the hospital.
“I prescribed a rabies vaccine to him and asked him to get it from the hospital drug store but after some time the patient again came to me saying that the vaccine is not available in the hospital,” the doctor said.
He said when he approached the concerned BMO he confronted me and started abusing me in the hospital premises. “When I tried to raise the issue about non-availability of medicines in the hospital, he instead of listening to me, threatened me of dire consequences. To save myself I approached local police station and filed a complaint against him,” the doctor said.
When contacted Block Medical Officer Dr Mushtaq Sheikh rejected the allegation and said the doctor is habitual of telling lies and levelling allegations against others.
He said that rabies vaccine is available in the hospital in abundance and have been recently acquired .
“The doctor in fact abused me and tried to assault me. He also threatened me so I filed a counter complaint against him before the local police,” Dr Mushtaq said.
However, Station House Officer, Syed Gazanfur told that they have registered a case based on the complaints and the same has been referred to the district court.
Meanwhile locals protested against BMO Bandipora and alleged that there was dearth of Rabies vaccine in the hospital and were shocked to know that vaccine was available in the hospital but was not being given to patients.
“It is because doctor raised alarm, BMO accepted that vaccines are present in hospital. Else they won’t give this vaccine to patients,”locals said appealing government to take action the BMO
