Srinagar, May 3, CNS: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Tuesday quashed the detention order of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat District President under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA).
A single bench of Justice Muhammad Yaqub Mir quashed the PSA order of the state government under which Mir has been detained.
Authorities had arrested Mir in July 2015 vide FIR number 189/2015 under section 147,148,336,307 while PSA was slapped on him in January this year.
Hafizullah Mir, a resident of Badora Akingam Kokarnaga area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district is accused of hoisting Pakistan flags, organizing anti-India marches and protests, provoking youth for violence and opening up of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat district office for fomenting trouble.
The counsel for the petitioner was Advocate Bashir Ahmed Tak while state was represented by additional advocate general Sajad Ahmed.
Pertinently, under the PSA, no bail can be granted to the detainee and the arrest can only be challenged in the high court. (CNS)
