Sumbal, April 28: In yet another case of government apathy, a school in Sumbal runs from a cowshed despite governments tall claims of streamlining education infrastructure.
Government Primary School at Nayi Basti Naninara area of Sumbal town has been running in a cowshed of rental based building since it was established in 2012.
The school has no building and hence all the office and class activities take place n a single room. The school has 38 students besides two teachers.
A local resident Gh Mohi-ud-Din said they approached district authorities and officials of education department several times but no one paid attention to their pleas.
Residents accused authorities of minting money from SSA and ignoring to develop infrastructure in schools. State government failed again to look into these schools mostly who are running in far flung areas, they said appealing Minister for Education Nayeem Akhter to look personally into the matter and redress their grievance.
Both the students as well as staff members allege government of sideling them despite tall claims of bringing education at the door steps of the people. Is this their Education at Door step. Children study in cowshed, they alleged.
One of the staff member of the school said he personally approached to different agencies in order to get their attention towards the proper infrastructure and facilities in school but none listened to their pleas.
Zonal Education Officer Sumbal passed the buck to locals alleging them of not cooperating with the department for better building in the locality on rent basis. He said they will merge the school now with some nearby middle school.
Chief Education Officer, Bandipora Said assured that he will personally visit the school and will redress all the genuine grievances.
