Anti-fisheries department protests rock Bandipora.        

“DC Bandipora gave false assurance till now, forced us to come on roads”

Bandipora, April 25:- Scores of protesters from Lankreshipora, Kulhama, Zurmanz and its adjoining areas today assembled near District Development Commissioners Office Bandipora and protested against Fisheries Department alleging the department allow poaching and illegal fishing in Wular Lake.

The Protesters told reporters that illegal Fishing is going continuously in Wular lake and fisheries employees are not taking any action against the said culprits.

“The illegal fishing while using banned nets is going unabated and the said department is not taking any action and we are facing hardships, said Ghulam Ahmad Baba resident of Zurmanz.

He further said that we are being forced to come on roads daily as the district administration is acting as mute spectators.

We have many times approached DC Bandipora who has given false assurances as the said department is not cooperating with administration, he said.

Union president, Fishermen union, Shabir Ahmad Kawa said since the government has banned illegal netting but on ground its going on unabated in Bandipora and the Fisheries department has not taken any action despite repeated pleas. “We request Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to personally intervene into the matter and hoped that illegal netting will be banned in future,” they said.
