Amid pro-freedom slogans, militants laid to rest
Kupwara, Apr 21 (KNS): Three militants were Thursday killed in an encounter that raged between militants and forces in the wee hours of Thursday morning in Lolab area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
SSP Kupwara, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat told KNS that on specific information, regarding the presence of militants in Gujjarpati Potushai area of Lolab, Police and 21 RR launched a joint cordon and search operation.
He said that soon after the search operation was launched, militants who were hiding in the forests fired upon the forces resulting in an encounter.
Bhat told KNS that three Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were killed in the gunfight while bodies of three militants, three Ak-47 and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site.
Meanwhile, thousands of people attended the funeral prayers of the three militants who were killed in an encounter.
According to KNS correspondent, the funeral prayers of the three militants were held at Mir Mohalla, Patushahi Lolab in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, in which thousands of people took participation.
Amid pro-freedom slogans, Lashkar-e-Toiba militants were buried in the Mir Mohalla’s local graveyard.
Meanwhile, Army in a statement issued to KNS said that in a major blow to the militants outfit, the security forces eliminated three militants in Lolab, Kupwara.
On receiving specific information about the presence of some terrorists in Putsai Village, in Lolab, Kupwara, Army and police launched a joint operation.
As the security forces closed in towards the suspect area, they drew a heavy volume of indiscriminate fire from the cornered terrorists.
Conscious of the presence of innocent civilians who were being used as human shields by the militants, the security forces gave a much calibrated response and in the ensuing gunfight killed three heavily armed militants without causing any collateral damage.
