Resolves to work to the expectations of the party
Srinagar, April 21: Senior People Democratic Party (PDP) leader and former legislator from Bandipora Nizamudin Bhat resumed his work at party office headquarters as general secretary after being nominated for the post by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in Srinagar.
Hundreds of party workers from across valley gathered at the office to receive the incumbent. Senior party functionaries and legislators Noor Mohammad Sheikh, MLA, Mohammad Khurshid Alam MLC & District President, Saif-ud-Din Bhat MLC, Ab Hameed Kosheen, Ghulam Nabi Tantrey, Mohammad Ashraf, Nazir Ahmad Yatoo and Mohammad Shafi Kundangar were also present on the occasion.
In their brief address to enthused workers, the leaders hailed Party President Mehbooba Mufti for her decision to have a seasoned team of party leaders on key party positions.
The leaders expressed hope that PDP will further expand its base and will reach out to masses in a more dedicated manner to see the agenda set by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed accomplished to their satisfaction.
Nizamudin Bhat thanking the party workers reiterated his resolve to work relentlessly for an ably oriented organization with an objective of public good.
Bhat said in his responsibility he will try his utmost to rise to the expectation of party leader Ms Mehbooba Mufti and party cadre in particular and people of the state in general.
Nizam-ud-Din Bhat has remained PDP’s general secretary twice in the past and is as such the most reliable and tested hand. The news about his retention in Bandipora has been received well despite the local’s desire for his inclusion in government.
Sources said despite reservations Bhat’s inclusion in the party leadership is seen an indication of acknowledgement of his skill, experience, commitment and political wisdom.
“This is also seen as an indication for a more obvious role for him in future,” they said.
Bhat is held in high esteem in all political circles and his own cadre in the state. His electoral debacle in Bandipora was received with surprise, shock and cynicism, much to the dissatisfaction of his fans outside Bandipora.
Bhat has remained very close to the separatist leader Abdul Ghani Lone and had played a lead role in shaping People’s Conference. He has remained equally important in his relations with Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and has groomed further under his shadow.
Sources said that his new stint is kind of a trust Mehbooba Mufti has reposed in him at a very crucial juncture of her political career.
