Srinagar | Apr 20 (PTK): Another battle has begun between NC, PDP and Congress in Anantnag assembly segment which is all set to go for the by-polls on May 16.
The assembly segment had fallen vacant after the demise of Mufti Muhammad Sayed.
With poll bigul sounded, the three main political parties- NC, PDP and Congress- which may witness a head-to-head contest, are yet to announce the names of their candidates.
While Congress says its main purpose will be to stop RSS from expanding its roots in Kashmir, but the party is still undecided about the formation of pre-poll alliance with Congress.
Until last year the Anantnag assembly segment has been a strong hold of PDP, but this time it could throw a surprise for PDP which has joined hands with rightwing BJP.
It may be noted that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced dates for holding the by- election in Anantnag. As per the ECI, the last date for filing nomination papers for the seat is April 29while scrutiny of papers would be done the next day. The voting will take place on May 16 and counting on May 19.
