Kupwara girl records statement before CJM, denies molestation

Srinagar | Apr 17 (PTK): The girl, whose alleged molestation led to protests in Kashmir and five people lost their lives in forces firing, stood on her earlier statement saying she was not molested.

A police spokesperson in a statement said the girl recorded her statement on Saturday evening before Chief Judicial Magistrate Handwara.

“Her statement was recorded in case FIR Number 130/2016 under section 354, 341, 509 RPC of Police Station Handwara,” the spokesperson said.

“In her statement before the Judicial Magistrate she revealed that on12-04-2016 after school hours while proceeding to her home with her friend she entered in a public lavatory near main chowk Handwara for answering the call of nature. As soon as she came out of lavatory she was confronted, assaulted and dragged by two boys and her bag was snatched. One of the boys was in school uniform,” she told the magistrate according to the police spokesperson.

The production of the girl along with her father before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Handwara was to comply the order of the Hon’ble High Court J&K, he added.

The girl’s statement contradicts with her mother who on Saturday said her daughter gave earlier statement under police pressure.  “When my daughter was returning home after school on Tuesday, she went to a bathroom and was followed by an army man. When she saw the army man in the bathroom, she raised an alarm, attracting attention of the nearby shopkeepers. The policemen also came to the scene but the army man fled. She was then taken to a police station without our knowledge,” the girl’s mother said on Saturday. (PTK)
