Students suffer as College is without staff

Bandipora, April 3:- Contrary to claims of government about transformation in the education sector, many Degree College in valley continue to work on crutches as colleges are understaffed.
Government Degree College Gurez established here in border town is facing acute shortage of staff thus making the students to suffer as government turns blind eye towards the miseries of the students.
Surprisingly the college has only four regular employees- The Principal and three class fourth employees.

In recent appointment of contractual staff for degree colleges by nodal college Amar Singh College for session 2016, all colleges except the GDC Gurez was provided the faculty. In absence of faculty, no class work is going on in the college.
The shortage of teaching staff in the College is adversely affecting the studies of near about 500 students enrolled in the college.
Gurez valley remains cut off from the rest of the world for more than six months. The JK government arranges air sorties for the stranded passengers and employees regularly.
This college in border town also lacks basic infrastructure forcing students to take classes in temporary fabricated sheds.
The messy state of affairs in the educational institution remains to be a matter of concern for the students and the locals’ besides passing six years of time.
Established as College during the year 2007, the educational institution continues to function in the two temporary fabricated sheds as the construction on building is missing the deadlines.
Both the students and the Principal (who happens to be the only faculty) rue the poor infrastructure including lack of space for holding classes. “Six years after the college was established, the infrastructure of the institution remains to be in the worst condition,” a staffer rued.
Students Told Kashmir Convener that they are facing immense hardships, due to lack of infrastructure as the college functions in just few rooms of temporary sheds.

Altaf Ahmad, a student from Dawar Gurez told Kashmir Convener on phone that there is no faculty in college and no academic work is being done in the college.
The students urged Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to arrange the faculty for the college so that class work starts soon.
Principal of the Gurez College Gurez Farooq Ahmad acknowledged the shortage and said that the nodal college has not sent any faculty to his college due to which the academic calendar has hit badly in the Gurez valley. He said he raised the issue with concerned but no action has been taken so far.
