Every year hundreds and thousands of students from Kashmir appear in IIT-JEE. It is a crude reality that although most of the Students from our State get through the Ist stage (JEE Mains), but unfortunately very few qualify for the prestigious IIT. The main reason for this is ignoring preparation of maths without which it’s almost impossible to become an IITian, no matter how good they are in Physics and chemistry. So, apart from Physics and chemistry, the most important prerequisite for becoming an IITians is maths, the role of which in shaping the career of students is summarized as below:
Ist and the foremost thing about mathematics is that, it is a foundation to solve any problem, whether it would be from physics or chemistry or maths itself. Mathematics makes students to think in many different ways to solve the problems / Questions belonging to any subject or for that matter at least Subjects related to IIT. So, if a Student is good in Maths, he is more likely to be good in Physics as well as in chemistry. It is Maths , which makes students to understood concepts of physics or chemistry more easily because many Concepts of Physics and chemistry are directly related to maths. Thus, in order to be good in physics and chemistry, students should be good in maths and to be good in maths they should take maths seriously, which will ultimately lead them to the IIT.
Another thing which mathematics delivers us regarding IIT is that, it develops reasoning power among Students and a good portion of IIT question come from Reasoning, Especially in IIT- JEE (Advanced). Thus, Maths proves to be an essential asset to develop reasoning ability, which will help to build good presence of mind and eventually proving to be a gateway to IIT.
Another advantage of being good in Maths: Although rare but very important as far as selection is concerned, is the priority given by the concerned authorities to Maths in case of a Tie in points got by students in Physics and chemistry. If some students have equal points in physics and chemistry, then their Fate will be decided by their points in Maths as far as IIT-JEE is concerned. So, Maths does have this slight advantage over other subjects in case of Engineering exams, thus ignoring Maths is simply like closing the doors to IIT.
By mentioning the above few advantages of maths to crack IIT, it is clear that to be an IITians Students cannot ignore Maths at any Cost.
Now i would like to suggest Some ideas to bring up good maths, students right from their childhood should take it serious. The big reason, why most of the students skip maths is that, they are brought up with the notion from their infancy that, Mathematics is tough , which is really not the case, If maths is dealt with strategic and logical approach, so we should always Encourage the students to build their interest towards this important subject and when that is done, they will eventually clear their basic concepts at the right time and they will then surely do best in this subject.
For the Government, i would suggest that JK BOSE Books should be replaced by NCERT Books because the former are usually having short syllabus and also mostly Unclear or not up to the mark.
Further more for teaching community, i would suggest that, as teachers are builders of Nation, they should be themselves knowledgeable enough to pass their knowledge to their students, by saying this, i mean they should themselves have clear concepts regarding their concerned subjects, because teachers play an important role in clearing concepts of students, as they should give them the concepts regarding entrance right from grade 11th, by teaching them in such a way, that will help them in the entrance, which they cannot learn by reading books. The above notion is true for all Subjects in general and Maths in particular.
In conclusion, i can write that by suggesting many views regarding Maths being an important asset to become an IITians. I would say that, ” if maths is taught by the teachers, the way it should be taught. Learnt by the students, the way it should be learned and presented by the authors in the form of books, the way it should be presented, Then Mathematics is surely a boon and not a bane , for the IIT aspirants.”
