In Bandipora Students, Journalists celebrate ‘Green Holi’

Bandipora, March 24:  A massive tree plantation drive was conducted in the District led by the District Development Commissioner where students from schools, officials from various departments of the District Administration, Journalists, Municipality Bandipora, and Police actively participated in plantation planting over 1000 saplings on the first day of the drive on the deforested areas of Shahab-ud-Din hills.plantation

This event was organized by the Department of Social Forestry with an innovative idea of celebrating holiday with a different color- Green Holi.

The Journalists also participated in the event by planting 50 saplings on Shahab-ud-Din Hills. The Journalists were lead by President of Media Association Bandipora Mohammad Sayeed Beigh. “We have identified an eroded portion of Shahab-ud-Din hills and planted 50 saplings, Journalists will take care of these plants  till they grow into trees,” Beigh said adding that  planting trees is the best form of charity at the time when world is witnessing drastic climate changes with Kashmir being no exception.

The Forest Department has a target of two lakh trees to be planted in Bandipora district this season. “As many as 5000 trees will be planted under special drive of plantation which was started today,” said DFO Bandipora Irfan Rasool.

On the occasion, the District Development Commissioner Bandipora planted tree saplings here today.   Officers of forest department, army, security forces, police and other departments were also present on the occasion.
