The Rashtriya Rifle Battalion under the aegis of Counter Insurgency Uniform Force Headquarters, Reasi implemented a solar electrification project for village Songri, in tehsil Kalakot. The project was inaugurated by Maj Gen BV Rao, GOC Uniform Force Headquarters and handed over to the local populace.
An official statement said under the Sadbhavana project, initially 40 households have been provided with a set of solar panels, battery, inverters and bulbs. With gradual progression of the project, these houses will be fitted with LED bulbs and in a phased manner the entire village will be electrified. With electrification, the villagers could optimise usage of multiple electronic gadgets.
The village Songri of Rajouri district is a remote village, which was devoid of electricity. The project was undertaken by the Army and decided on alternative of tapping solar energy which was both eco-friendly and technically feasible.
The project was formally handed over to the beneficiaries by General Officer Commanding, Uniform Force Headquarters in a inaugural function graced by senior officials of Army, civil administration and Sarpanches.
