‘Trigger happy’ Army loves to target innocent people: Kaloo
Ashmuqam, March 8, CNS: National Conference legislator from Pahalgam constituency Tuesday alleged that Army have been interfering into civil affairs and are harassing the civil population in the name of militancy.
“It is unfortunate that Army have started meddling into the civil affairs. What they did in my constituency (Ashmuqam) on Tuesday is highly condemnable. Army ransacked houses, beat up inmates and caused damage to parked vehicles to stop people from reshuffle the local Auqaf body. It is really shame that Army acted as stooges of administration and resorted to unprovoked firing injuring two youth in Iram Colony Ashmuqam,” Altaf Ahmed Kaloo told Srinagar based news agency CNS and added that trigger happy Army loves to target innocent people in Kashmir.
Pertinently, two persons were injured after Army personnel from 3 RR allegedly resorted to indiscriminate firing on the people after they objected their ‘illegal’ mode of operation. Locals alleged that Army ransacked houses and ruthlessly beat up certain people during a search operation.
National Conference legislator alleged that Army acted on the instructions of district administration which wanted to foil the attempts of people to give shape to the new Auqaf Body. “District and Police administration particularly SDM Pahalgam and SDPO Ashmuqam were hell-bent to stop people from reshuffling the Auqaf Body. They don’t want new body should expose the misdeeds of the older body. The day when new Auqaf body was supposed to take shape, Army cordoned off the area and targeted houses of those people who were on forefront in giving shape to the new Auqaf body. The irony is that people were beaten up without any provocation. Ransacking of house took place while Army target even parked vehicles. The mood of the Army gave clear impression that they have not cordoned off the area to look for militants but to harass and warn those people who are interested in giving shape to the new Auqaf body. If Army had arrived in the area with an intent to nab militants, they should not have resorted to unprovoked firing. This is injustice. Police have lodged and FIR against the Army but we demand a judicial probe into the incident,” Kaloo said and warned if judicial probe is not ordered, a massive agitation will be started in Pahalgam constituency against the Army and district administration.
Kaloo added that even a top police officer admitted before him that Army have operated illegally and have violated the Standard Operating Procedure. (CNS)
