Kangan residents face drinking water crisis

GANDERBAL, March 03: The residents of Jagal-Pati Ganwan in KanganĀ  are facing huge scarcity of potable water for past one month.

The locals of Jagal-Pati Hari Ganwan area of Central Kashmir said they we are facing problem due to non-availability of pure drinking water. It has been more than a month that the area is without water.

Residents allege that due to callous attitude of the PHE department the issue was not addressed even after giving several reminders to the authorities.

A local resident Bashir Ahmad Mir said, ā€œA dozen of families living in Hariganwan in Tehsil Kangan are suffering for want of drinking water for more than month. We at Jagal-Pati Hariganwan are not getting water supply at all. In absence of water supply, we face immense problems. Many a time, we tried to contact Concerned PHE authority but there was no response from the other end,ā€ he informed.

ā€œOur women have to walk miles a day to fetch water from river or another villege. It has been a month now that we are without drinking water and concerned officials are playing tom, dick and harry by saying that water will be supplied soon’ today a girl namely Humaira Showket daughter of Showket Mir’ attacked by stray dogs while fetching water from nearby villageā€ he said.

The residents urged the state government and concerned minister to personally look into the matter to solve the problems being faced by the residents of the Jagal-Pati HariGanwan in this central Ganderbal.

When contacted, Junior engineer PHE, Firdous Ahmad said: The water pipes in Jagal-Pati area got disjointed, crushed or damaged due to freezing conditions of the surrounding soil’ We are looking into the matter the damaged pipes will repair next two to four days and the water supply will be restored after restored these damaged pipes.ā€ he said.
