Bandipora, February 29: A 33-year old Daily Wager of Power Development Department (PDD) was electrocuted while repairing an electric transformer in Gori-hajin area of Chitteybandy in Bandipora district.
Khursheed Ahmad Bhat S/o Gh Hassan Bhat R/o Chitteybandy Bandipora, was electrocuted when he accidentally came in contact with a live wire and died on the spot, a police officer said.
Family members, however, blame department for criminal negligence. They allege that department is playing a havoc with the lives of daily wagers.
They said daily wagers are only the assistants of the permanent employees and their work is not to repair the transformers and other equipments related to the electric appliances as they are not perfectly trained in any of the institutions. “But the permanent employees force them to these dangerous tasks as they never bother to perform duties and instead force causal staff to perform their duties,” said a family member.
Executive Engineer PDD Bandipora said they are probing the incident. He assured full support to the bereaved family.
The body of the deceased was handed over to his relatives for last rites after completion of legal formalities, police official said.
