Ganderbal protests against Food Security Act

GANDERBAL: The residents of Manigam area in Central Ganderbal District on Friday held protests against the National Food Security Act (NFSA).

While demanding the immediate roll back of the controversial act, a large number of protesters, including youths, came out on the streets today after Friday pray and demanding immediate revocation of the Act. “This Act will force people to buy ration from markets at higher rates. What will I do with three kilos of rice with ten members in the family. This is injustice with us,” Ab Raheem said.

“We want the CAPD officials to issue us ration as per our requirements. Earlier it was 13 kilograms per head and now then have reduced it to 30 kilograms per ration card and now three kilos. This is injustice with us,” a protestors said.
The controversial NFSA was implemented in J&K on February 15, this year. The law guarantees five Kg ration per person for a month. The protests have been continuing across the valley against the act, with consumers demanding the ration as per the old scheme, which guaranteed 35 kilos of rice to every household.

“We demanding immediate revocation of the Act. “This Act will force people to buy ration from markets at higher rates. It would lead to inflation, and 3kg ration for a family member is not enough,” Ganderbal district chief Gul Muhammad War said.
