58611 children administered Oral Polio Vaccine in Bandipora 

97 percent children immunized: DIO

Bandipora, Feb 22: A total of 58611 children below the age of years were were administered Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) during the second round of pulse polio immunization programme held here on Sunday.

Against the target of  of 60500 children,  58611 were covered during the immunization drive thus recording  97.4 per cent achievement.

In three blocks of Bandipora District 26386, 27315 and 4815 children respectively received the drops in Bandipora, Hajin and Gurez block of Bandipora   during the campaign. The target in the respective blocks according officials was 26432, 28987 and 5008.

The department will now start its door-to-door checks to cover children who had missed the dosage, District Immunization Officer Dr Haroon told Kashmir Convener.

Talking to Kashmir Convener District immunization Officer Dr Haroon said a comprehensive awareness campaign was launched in all the three blocks of district before the ‘Polio Sunday’. He said local imams and general public was counselled about the pulse polio and they were assured that no adverse events following immunization is being reported from any area of Kashmir division

“We were on task one week earlier to pulse polio day” He said, adding “counsellors were sent to far flung areas of Gurez and Tulail thus were 97 % immunization was made possible”
