Bpora Court complex turned into battlefield

5 including 3 lawyers injured

Bandipora Feb 03: The District court complex Bandipora on Wednesday turned into a battle grounds when an accused person with his accomplice assaulted counsel of their opposite party injuring five persons including three lawyers.

 

Noor-Din Gojjar of Doban Onagam who is accused in a criminal case allegedly assaulted 65 year advocate Jan Muhammad Mir with a sharp edged weapon after they entered into verbal brawl. Advocate Jan is said to be his opposite counsel in a criminal case titled Noor Gujjar versus Zubaida.

 

Eyewitnesses said when Public Prosecutor Advocate Shafiq came to the rescue of Jan Mohmmad , he was also attacked by the accused and got severely injured and was referred to sub-district hospital Bandipora. He said lawyers later caught hold of the attackers and beat them to pulp.

 

Five people were injured during the fight including three Lawyers Advocate Jan Muhammad, Advocate Shafeeq Ahmed (PP) and Advocate Kaiser Bashir while accused Noor Muhammad and a civilian Ashiq Hussain were rushed to Srinagar hospital after receiving severe injuries.

 

The attack took place when the accused was brought for hearing in a case at the CJM court here.

“The attack was pre-planned by Noor Din and his accomplices,” alleged Jan Mohammad. He said Noordin  called him before the attack and gave him life threats on phone

 

However accused Noor Muhammad said it was a group of advocates who argued first on the monetary issue regarding his long pending case in court.

 

Meanwhile, Bar Association Bandipora went on strike and all the petition writers and computer operators also abstained from work demanding strict action against the attackers.

 

They alleged that the security personnel let the under-trials, including criminals, enter the court premises without proper frisking.

 

“As we left from chambers for routine work, we witnessed a man hitting a an Advocate in court complex, as we reached nearer they were three to five people with knives in hands trying to hit advocate “said lawyers in court. “Police contingents deployed on security f the court complex were witnessing whole feud as mute spectators” they said.

 

Meanwhile President Bar Association Bandipora Advocate Masood Bhat   demanded arrest of the accused persons. Demanding proper security around the court complex he said that there is insufficient and loose security around complex which needs to be enhanced.

 

Meanwhile Police says that they are investigating the matter after receiving application from both the parties. Police have registered two FIRs (16 and 17) and have started investigation.
