Srinagar, Jan 03 : The annual report prepared by a human rights group in the state has put the question mark on the tall claims of state administration claiming that preventive mechanism has been taken to stop suicidal attempts among the force personnel in the state as the report has revealed that eight force personnel have committed suicide in the year 2015.
According to the report prepared by Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of civil society (JKCCS) reveals that the trend of suicides continued in the ranks of Indian military, paramilitary and police forces despite certain mechanism claimed to have been put in place by the government to prevent such cases.
In the report, JKCCS has said that as many as eight cases of suicide by military, paramilitary and police forces came to fore in the year 2015.
“Out of eight cases four personnel were from army, one from Air Defense Regiment, two CRPF and a policeman, committed suicide in the recently ended year,” Report reveals.
The report further added that among the suicidal attempts among the force personnel; no incident of fratricidal killings incident was reported.
The senior CRPF official has reportedly said that the reason behind the suicides is law and order as the there is tough law and order in the state. “The newly recruited personnel didn’t bear the law and order of the state due to which some among the personnel commit suicide,” he said.
He has said that not only the law and order of the state and other service related issues but the reasons behind the suicide committed by the personnel are also family related issue.
“I believe that the Jawan’s are committing suicides due to the family related issues as it has been seen that the personnel who committed suicide had joined their duties after spending the holidays with their family thereby the memories, family matters force them to commit suicides,” he has said.
Pertinently, according to the report prepared by National Crime Report Bureau (NCRB) in 2014, the state has accounted 73.3 per cent of total such suicides in the country as out of 15 suicides committed by the personnel across India, 11 suicides has been reported in Jammu and Kashmir, which is higher than other states of the country.
