CSFK expresses shock over GMC head’s decision

Srinagar, Dec 18 (KNS): Civil Society Forum Kashmir today said that it was shocked by the decision taken by Dr Rafiq Ahmad Pampori Principal GMC Srinagar for voluntary retirement from his service.

“It is to our utter surprise that an honest dedicated and dignified person of the caliber of Dr Pampori has been forced by the circumstances to go on a protest leave and voluntary retirement. It has come as a rude shock,” CSFK said in a statement.

“He has not been allowed to function freely and take decisions in the interest of the college and associated hospitals in public interest as principal/Dean being highest decision making authority in the setup at such level. It is a shame for the civil society in general and medical fraternity in particular that such honest and committed person is compelled by the conditions created by the powers that be to take such an unfortunate decision,” the Forum said.

“Is this the policy of the government in respect of healthcare that the institution there being blanket part on purchases and the indiscipline is being created by authority. In such a state of affairs how can an honest and dedicated and conscious person of the calibre of Dr Pampori remain at the helm of affairs and be a mute spectator,” it asked.

The Civil Society Forum Kashmir sought an explanation from the authorities at the helm of affairs for creating such a mess in the health care sector more so in prestigious institutions like GMC Srinagar and its associated hospitals. (KNS)
