Srinagar, Dec 17, CNS: The proposed implementation of National Security Bill sparked protests in Srinagar city for the fifth consecutive day. Protesters who took to roads blocked boulevard road for hours near Brein Nishat appealing government not to implement the bill in the state.
Police diverted the traffic near Obroi Place after protesters did not allow vehicular movement on the road. The protesters said that Food Security Bill is good for states like
Uttar Pradesh or Bihar as majority of the consumers in these states kive Below Poverty Line (BPL) while in Jammu and Kashmir more than 70 per cent population fall under the category of Above Poverty Line (APL). “If this bill is introduced in Jammu and Kashmir, people will be forced to buy ration from markets on higher rates. If the Bill is implemented, it would lead to inflation,” a protester told CNS.
Protest against the implementation of the Food Security Bill was also reported from Rajbagh area of Srinagar city. Protesters mostly females amid anti-government slogans warned if the proposed bill is implemented in State, they will stir an agitation against the government. (CNS)
