Hizb claims responsibility for the attack
Srinagar, Dec 07 (KNS): Six CRPF men were Monday morning injured in an attack on a CRPF convoy by militants near Bijbehara town on Srinagar-Jammu Highway Anantnag district.
CRPF spokesman Ashish Kumar Jha told KNS that there militant in army fatigues suddenly appeared from nearby fields at Sangam at 10.am and fired volley of bullets on CRPF convoy.
“It was some sort of a fidayeen attack on the convoy. The militants had planned a proper and big attack on our security forces. But due to alertness of the CRPF Road Opening Patrol deployed to patrol the convoy and also those men in the convoy, the attack was thwarted. Otherwise, it would have been a major attack,” Jha told KNS.
The spokesman said that the injured were shifted to Army hospital in Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar. “All of the injured men are stable after treatment,” he said.
Soon, after the attack army, police and paramilitary forces trooped near the firing spot and cordoned off the area to search for the militants.
Meanwhile, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the attack.
In a tele-statement to KNS, Hizb spokesman Burhan-u-din said: “Our militants attacked a CRPF convoy near Bijbehara in which eight CRPF men were critically injured.”
The spokesman also said its militants carried out attacks on army posts in Poonch at Darrah Sherkhan in Tatta Pani Sector in which “three Indian army personnel were killed and the post was completely destroyed.”
Meanwhile, Lashkar-e-Toiba chief Mahmooad Shah has appreciated Abu Musa, JK LeT Commander, for the action on the CRPF convoy.
In an emailed statement to KNS, LeT spokesman Dr Abdullah Ghanzavi claimed: “Four CRPF men were killed and 14 others were injured, out of them most are critical. One CRPF vehicle was completely damaged.”
