Society insensitive towards women rights: Speakers

Srinagar: Prominent jurisprudents and religious scholars on Thursday said crimes against women were on surge across Kashmir and society was growing insensitive towards women rights.

“Women of our society have become a grave victim of this greedy society. Not only this, the society has grown insensitive towards women rights,” member of Anjuman-e-Nustraul-Islam, Syed Rehman Shams told members during a daylong Consultative Meeting with Ulema on property Rights of Women. The event was organised by Ehsaas, NGO/KDP at a local hotel here.

“Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has given the slogan of protecting the rights of women way back. We must his follow to develop our way forward and work for the women empowerment,” he said.

The coordinator of the meeting, Ezabir Ali said the speakers felt the need to raise awareness among the general public over the rights of women and their role in building the society.

“We need to be upright towards their rights and full our duties properly,” Moulana Hakim Sajad Hussain of Ahle Baiyat Foundation said.

“There is a lot of disparity and insensitivity towards women of our society at our hands,” Hussain said.

In a bid to deliberate upon the issues related to property rights of women with special reference to half widows and orphans, Ehsaas, an NGO on Thursday organised a consultative meeting with Ulema of the valley.

During the meeting, Ulema discussed various issues regarding the rights of women in Islam. The Ulema presented papers on various issues and rulings in Islam related to the distribution of property.

Other speakers including Moulana Showkat Husssain Keng, Moulana Ghulam Rasool Hami, Mufti Mohammad Ishaq, Mujahid Shabir Falahai and Prof Hamid Naseem Rafiabadi also spoke on the issue, urging for carrying out some path breaking work towards upliftment  this weaker section of the society.
