Burnaie (Gurez), October 14: The residents of Burnaie village in Gurez area of Bandipora have demanded the Government to build a bridge across the Neelam River (Kishen Ganga) that flows near the village. The villagers have been making persistent demands for the construction of a bridge since 1947, but to no avail.
The first village of Tulail Valley-Burnie with about two hundred households rue lack of basic amenities, complained that demand for a bridge at over Neelam River has remained unfulfilled since the past six decades with several appeals by villagers only turning into a cry in the wilderness.
The river mostly flows with great fury, the people here find it difficult to cross the river to reach their land, they said.
At present, the people here are using a makeshift they had constructed with two wooden logs which they said to be constructed as fast flowing water damage it every year in march April.
The aged persons and the students are using the same bridge to cross the river. Ghulam Qadir Lone, a resident of the village, has said that it was difficult to walk with the luggage on this bridge.
Villagers demand that Government should build a permanent bridge across the river, and take initiatives to upgrade the civic amenities in the village, he said.
“Many time elders and children fell into the river some died while others were rescued as the makeshift bridge too is in sufficient “villagers said.
The residents here have said that they had requested the local MLA and officials of the District Administration many times to construct a bridge across the river.
Farmers are the worst hit as they find it extremely difficult to transport agricultural produce over the bridge.
The villagers say their patience is running out and it is time for an agitation. They said “our demands are not been honoured,we have umpteenth times know the door of government but concerned authorities hardly pay any attention to our please so we are contemplating of agitation “villagers said.
An official of the local adminstation said the Proposal of Bridge construction for Burnaie village has been sent to the state government for the approval.
“Within next working season the work on the bridge would be initiated as the proposal of bridge construction is under consideration” he Said.
