Autumn session of Legislative Assembly

Srinagar, Oct 2: With the brief Autumn Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly starting Saturday, Opposition parties are bracing themselves to corner the PDP-BJP led government on all burning issues, including beef ban, random arrests, unemployment and failure of the government to rehabilitate flood victims.

The opposition parties including National Conference and Congress plan to corner the government for its failure to defend the beef ban case in the court and according to an NC leader, government will also be cornered for its inability to stop its own men from filing a PIL in favour of beef ban in the court of law.

“We will ask the state government what public interest was involved in its attempt to allow its own men to file a PIL against the beef consumption and why it was later on forced to go all the way to the Supreme Court and spend people’s money in its attempt to do so,” a legislator from National Conference told CNS.

A Congress leader said that,“the PDP led government is adopting double standards. It has not fulfilled its promises and has failed on the law and order front. Above all, it is trying to encourage communal elements,” he said.

Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta has already sought cooperation of all political parties to ensure a smooth autumn session. The Speaker expressed hope that all members would utilize the session judiciously to highlight issues of public interest. A legislator from ruling party claimed that government has answer to every question of the Opposition. “We have done a ‘marvelous’ job in a short span of time. People are the best judge,” he said.
