16 children found positive for Hepatitis-A in Bandipora village

People advised to use boiled water

Bandipora, July 01:- Panic gripped in Quil village of Bandipora after 16 children reported positive for Hepatitis-A on Saturday afternoon.

"We have been forced to use filthy water from nearby streams as we do not have any other choice, the promises of the Administration for providing safe drinking water are nowhere at ground", Abdul Ahad a local resident from Quil said.

Giving details Dr. Nabeel said that they have reported 16 Hepatitis -A  cases from Quail village and 11 Hepatitis -E cases from which 16 cases of Hepatitis-A were found positive in Quil village.

He said that contaminated water is the reason for the virus and recent rains is the cause, the villagers use water from nearby streams.

"The advisory had been issued on loudspeakers in local mosques and officially, the teams in monitoring the situation of the villages,"he added.

Meanwhile Deputy commissioner Bandipora Dr.Owais Ahmad while giving the details said that the appearance of waterborne diseases in Bandipora had decreased from last year's district Administration had provided filtration water to several areas which had been prone for these diseases.

"The advisory has been issued by the health department and people have been advised to use safe and boiled water for drinking purposes in these areas,"he added.
