Srinagar, Sep 28: The National Conference MLA from Sopore, Irshad Rasool Kar, on Monday alleged that “Delhi is not letting J&K run” and asserted that statehood is essential to fulfil the promises made to the people, while questioning the BJP’s conduct in the Assembly over the resolution.
Speaking to Kashmir Convener outside the Assembly, MLA Kar said the Chief Minister’s speech during the session had “cleared 4-5 things,” including matters related to the reservation bill and business rules.
“Today, the Chief Minister explained very well what is the harm in not having statehood. Whether the reservation bill, or the business rules, I do not think anything will be left to hide,” MLA Kar said.
He claimed that even in the Chief Minister’s absence, the Speaker and the Chief Secretary were told not to vote on the resolution. “This means Delhi is not letting J&K run. This is why it is important for us to work properly, and we need statehood for the promises we have made to the people,” he said.
Responding to a question on the BJP creating a ruckus in the House, MLA Kar said, “Even today, in the last 3-4 days, I did not understand why they created a ruckus.”
On the BJP’s statement that they should support statehood, the MLA said those things are already the property of the House. “They are making an excuse for that. There is nothing else,” he said.
He said that in the absence of statehood, the people of Jammu and Kashmir are at a loss. “Today, there is a National Conference in the government. There is no benefit for anyone in this—neither for the people of Jammu nor for Kashmir,” he said.
On being asked about tourism in Sopore, MLA Kar said he was concerned about several tourism projects that have been moving slowly for the past year and a half due to funding and project issues.
“We have got a lot of projects in eco-tourism, but the main tourism boost has not come from the Department of Tourism. That was my concern. God willing, the CM has also assured me that attention will be given to those things, and my demands will be fulfilled in the coming financial year,” he said.
