Rajouri, Aug 30, CNS: India and Pakistan traded heavy fire along the Line of Control in Nowshera Sector of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir prompting authorities to close down all the schools located along the border.
An Indian Defense official said that:“Pakistani troops initiated small arms, automatics and mortar fire from10.35 am along the LoC in Nowshera sector”. “The Indian army was retaliating strongly and effectively,” he added.
Reports said that fire and mortar shells were exchanged by the armies of both the countries in Kalsian, Bhawani and Baba Khori.
“The fresh spate of shelling and firing begun a day after Pakistan troops at a flag meeting with their Indian counterpart at Chakkan Da Bagh in Poonch last week had agreed to maintain peace and tranquility on the border,” said an official.
Reports said that some shells fired from across the border landed in civilian areas.
"As a precautionary measures, some educational institutions located near LoC in Kalal, Kalsian and Bhawani have been closed for today," said an official. (CNS)
