Srinagar, Mar 30 (KNS): Forest Protection Force (FPF) Kashmir has intensified its raids, nakas and search operations across Kashmir Valley since last few days.
As per sources in Baramulla District and JV Forest Division FPF carried out surprise checks and raids on suspicious Joinery/bandsaw Units in boten goo, Kandi and Doabgah areas.
Search operations in Co No 71 of Uri led to seizure of 48 cft illicit timbet (Kail/sawn).
Checking of suspicious vehicles including load carriers was also done on Baramulla-Srinagar and Baramulla-Kupwara highway by FPF personnel.
In Kamraj Forest Division of Kupwara today afternoon FPF personnel seized 71 cft illicit timber (Deodar/Round) from Co No 25/SL of South Lolab Range.
In Pir Panjal Forest Division of Budgam FPF under the command of Deputy Director carried out night long ambushes and nakas in vulnerable Sukhnag forests. During the operation a timber dump was busted and illicit timber (Fir:Sawn).
12 cft was seized in Co no 17/Sukhnag. A few days back FPF personnel had busted a timber dump in an agricultural field in chadoora area and seized 21 cft(Fir/sawn) illicit timber.
In Shopian Division today early morning FPF seized Kail (Round) 4nos equal to 20 cft from Co No Rb/24/a of Zawoora Forest Block.
In Bandipora Division FPF seized Kail/sawn equal to 18 cft at Sathri Nallah in village Simular where timber smugglers had hidden it underneath grasses.
“We have been asked to go on high alert by higher ups” said an FPF official. He further said “we are under orders to intensify searches in forests, lay nakas on national highways, link roads and check every suspicious vehicle”.
Joint Director Forest Protection Force Kashmir Irfan Ali Shah said “I have ordered my forces to intensify anti smuggling operations, to act tough against forest damagers and book them under Public safety Act(PSA).” (KNS)
