Protests against PDD continues in Valley

Residents appeal authorities to restore power supply

Srinagar, Feb 02 (KNS): The protests against the Power Development Department (PDD) continued in the Valley on Thursday as the most of the villagers in North Kashmir claim that they are reeling under darkness from past one week.
Various localities in north Kashmir districts including Kupwara and Bandipora staged anti-PDD protests for ‘failing to restore’ power supply in their area from past several days.
They are demanding immediate restoration of electric supply.
According to KNS correspondent, the residents of Main Bandipora town in the wee hours today took to streets and staged protest against the erratic power supply.
The people assembled in the main market after the announcements were made on the local Masjid loudspeakers appealing people to come out to protest against the ‘failures of PDD’.
Witnesses said that the protesters chanted anti-PDD slogans.
The protesting residents said that they are facing tremendous hardships due to the erratic power supply in their areas.
They said that they approached to the officials concerned in this regard but unfortunately nothing has been done.
The protest against PDD was also reported in Surigam area of Lolab. The protesters according to KNS correspondent said that they are reeling under darkness from past one week. “The authorities are ignoring our plights as they are not taking no measures to fulfill our demands,” the protesting residents said while chanting slogans against PDD.
The protest against PDD continued after the Valley received heavy snowfall.
The officials had informed that more than 300 transformers got damaged due to the heavy snowfall in the Valley. “The maximum number of damaged transformers has been repaired while the remaining would be repaired in next few days,” the officials had informed.
However, the protests against the department continued at various places today during which the protesters demanded immediate redressal of their genuine grievances.
Meanwhile, according to KNS correspondent, the residents of Dooniwari area of Lolab also complained of erratic power supply.
The residents appealed the higher ups to look in the matter and fulfill their genuine demands at earliest. (KNS)
