Oppn blames Govt for power failure, road blockades in Valley

Hakim, Tarigami seek immediate restoration of services

Jammu, Jan 27 (KNS): Uproarious scenes against the shortage of power and road connectivity were witnessed in the assembly as opposition accused the government of failing to restore power and road connectivity after fresh heavy to heavy snowfall crippled Kashmir. While MLA Banihal Vikar Rasool Wani claimed that 13 houses have been damaged in his constituency, MLA Pahalgam Altaf Kuloo said that 50 houses have suffered damages in his home constituency.
PDF Chairman and MLA Khansahib Hakim Mohammad Yaseen sought immediate directions to the authorities for restoration of services from the floor of the house.
MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami told the government that this is not the time to give the assurances but the restoration of the delivery of the services is the concern which should be ensured immediately.
According to KNS correspondent covering the assembly proceedings, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Abdul Rahman Veeri while admitting the collapse of power supply and road restoration services in Kulgam district of South Kashmir told the House that ground staff of both power and R&B departments is working overtime to restore power and clear the roads in almost all parts of Kashmir Valley. He informed the house that Deputy Commissioners in all the districts are overseeing the restoration work on ground.
The Minister said that Government has pressed into service 18 snow clearance machines and 16 dewatering pumps alone in Srinagar to ensure speedy restoration of services in Srinagar city. (KNS)
