Police acts like ‘armed cowards’ to break will of freedom lovers: Geelani

Says ransacking houses, looting ornaments won’t deter our resolve

Srinagar: Dec 29 (KNS): Strongly condemning the arrest of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader, Ab Gani Bhat, Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Bhat, father of acting district president, Kupwara, Farooq Ahmad Bhat, chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani Thursday said that being active political worker, Ab Gani Bhat was on the forefront of the ongoing uprising for the last five months, leading the peaceful and non-violent demonstrations throughout South Kashmir.
In a statement issued to KNS, Geelani said but police and local administration being the local tools in the hands of “Indian brutality” have declared him as wanted offender, his house ransacked and relatives put behind bars.
“When these acts of repression failed to deter him from the freedom struggle, these stooges, sealed his bandsaw, ransacked his residential house, looted ornaments and arrested his elderly brother and son-in- law.”
The Hurriyat (G) chairman said that these “armed cowards” declared him proclaimed offender but it were the pro- freedom people that assisted and helped him through all this horrendous tactics adopted by people in uniform.
The pro-freedom leader condemned night raids on incarcerated and elderly Gh Mohidin Pundit Lala and said that he is presently languishing in Kotbalwal jail and police is still chasing his three sons including Shekel Ahmad, Meraj u Din and Irshad Ahmad.
Geelani while condemning police high handedness said that these arbitrary measures are the main cause of growing number of human rights violations and while ridiculing the rulers for their rhetoric for “Battle of Ideas”, said that they while ignoring human values are parroting about their slogan of so-called development and it is just to befoul media and international opinion.
He expressed his deep concern over the growing incidences of violation of human rights by police and forces, said that that these men in uniform are suffering from power of arrogance and forget that youth are sacrificing their lives for the future of whole nation.
Meanwhile, Geelani while felicitating Freedom Party Chairman and General Secretary Hurriyat Conference (G), Shabir Ahmad Shah, said that he has served detention for almost half of his life and during this period the exhibition of his velour and steadfastness is praiseworthy.
Geelani said that all these suppressive measures won’t deter us from our cherished mission. (KNS)
