Srinagar | Dec 09 (PTK): Appealing people to march towards UNO after Zuhar (afternoon) prayers, Hurriyat (M) chairman and Jamia Masjid’s head preacher, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday condemned the civilian killing and injuring of several persons in Arwani area of South Kashmir on Thursday.
Addressing a gathering here at Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid, Mirwaiz said the government has unleashed terror across the Valley. “With one more civilian killing in South Kashmir on Thursday, there seems no end to the civilian killings in Kashmir,” he said.
He also appealed people to make UN chalo call after Zuhar (afternoon) prayers on Saturday successful. “I appeal you all to march towards UN office at Sonwar here after Zuhar prayers on Saturday to handover a memorandum to the military observers regarding India’s continuous denial of political (right to self-determination), civil, social, religious and economic rights of the people of Jammu & Kashmir for last seven decades,” he said.
Meanwhile, following the Friday congregational prayers, clashes erupted between youth and forces in Nowhatta area of Srinagar during which forces used tear gas canisters to disperse the youth.
Notably, Jamia Masjid was put under siege for 19 consecutive weeks here following the uprising in the Valley that triggered after the killing of Hizb commander Burhan Wani on July 08, 2016.
More than 90 people including two cops were killed thousands of people were maimed and blinded during the current uprising in the Valley.
Meanwhile, as soon as Mirwaiz reached to his Nigeen residence, he was placed under house arrest, a Hurriyat (M) leader said.
He said that the chairman was released from house arrest at 12:30 pm. “He was put under house detention again at 2:30 pm after he reached his Nigeen residence,” he said. (PTK)
